Final Summary: Week 15

My final project was turning Obama into a Superhero. I personally feel as though to some women and men, he is almost their real life superhero (take the mother who couldn’t afford her child’s health insurance). I hope that people do not take this extremely politically. To a certain extent, I’m sure someone could do a Romney or W. Bush superhero. Anyways, I hope that the reader views this as a “joke” story and not as a serious political stance (even though it sort of is). I really enjoyed combining all the my “skillz” into one project.

My week 3 blog seemed to be forever ago. My definition has changed slightly. I said that any old flickr picture or youtube video counted as digital storytelling. To an extent, this is true. However, I now feel that this flickr photo must have been taken for a reason for that youtube video must have been shot for a purpose to count as digital storytelling.

My link to my tutorial/assignment/daily create posts contains my tutorials (one on Corgis, another on iMovie), my assignment ideas (“Post Secret”, and TV Intro Backwards) and then my ideas for daily creates (take a picture of what you do when you first wake up and favorite place to do homework).

My best work category contains the assignments I had the most fun doing. They may not have actually been my “best work”, but these were the assignments that I did and thought “wow, that was actually a fun break from real work”. I also included ones that I got a lot of comments on.

My advice post is all in gifs and a few words. GIFs, I think, express more than a picture and  less that a video, so it is “just right”.

I loved DS106. At first I was pretty stressful because I’d never used Twitter before and my computer was essentially a “Facebook Machine”. But I feel like I not only know the world of blogging better, but I know the way around my computer. I don’t think I have any complaints about DS106 at all.

Who lets the dog out?

Final Project: Pulling it All Together

Once upon a time, President Barack Obama happened to wander across a Cafepress super hero cape for sale. Recognizing his ability to destroy sexism, he decided to become America’s super hero in the fight against Rush Limbaugh and his cohorts. He quickly purchased the cape in “super hero red”.

However, the election was quickly approaching. He realized that he could not defeat Limbaugh without having the power and title he currently has. He sent out an advertisement to his buddies from his superhero planet of “Mal Sexisme” and electorate. It has been translated into our language, thus the speed at which he is talking. And the chipmunk sounding cheers.

Finally, he released a jingle to be played on all the radio stations to convince people to vote for him and his super hero powers.

The President donned his red cape and took to the Oval Office, awaiting his first call to duty as a super hero.

Paying it Forward: To future DS106ers.

DS106 can be difficult at times because it involves the internet and technology. Once you feel like you understand something and it works, this happens:

And then sometimes you’ll forget to tag things or do the daily create and you’ll look like this at your roommate during a relaxing dinner.

You’ll end up tweeting like a mad person and slamming on the keys.

You won’t figure out how do something until the last minute.

Then you’ll finally figure out how to make that GIF or finally figure out GIMP or how to download a Youtube video.

Start it early, or else.

But have fun and make art!

Final Project: Jingle Jangle for Prez Obama

For the Jingle Jangle assignment,I created a jingle for President Obama as a super hero. The lyrics are “He’s runnin’ round the White House, quiet as a mouse, Stoppin’ crime, in his extra time, Michelle doesn’t know about this, but you bet stoppin’ sexism in on his list”.
Yeah I know. Good stuff, right?

Anywho, I recorded myself “singing” this and then I sang “It’s President Obama!” and changed the pitch on it and added an echo. Then, I downloaded this sound from free sound.

This is what I imagine President Obama sneaking around the White House to while he runs off to do his super hero job on the side.
In his fancy red cape.

Final Project: Before and After

For this before and after assignment, I took one white house picture and one superhero picture of Obama. I used a website called makeagif.com to make the gif with two pictures.

This gif is supposed to show how by day, Obama is merely president of the United States, but by night, he is a superhero. He runs around the White House and the DC metropolitan area stopping crime and destroying sexism. He takes superhero walks with Bo, the First Dog.

*insert super hero sound here*

Assignment idea: Post”Secret”

Write on a “post-it” (haha, get it. “Post” secret.) your biggest dream in life. What are you going to school to accomplish? Who would you like to meet? What is your dream job? Whatever it is, it shouldn’t be a “secret”! Tell the whole internet world! After you take the picture, upload it to flickr and make sure to include the tags!

My Biggest Dream

To do this, I wrote this on a sharpie and took a picture of it with my phone. I emailed it to myself and uploaded it to flickr.

Assignment idea: That’s What You Get When You Play a TV Show Intro Backwards.

Have you ever wanted to know what happen to your favorite TV show characters before the TV show? For this assignment, download your favorite TV show intro and reverse it.

2/5 stars

For this assignment, I downloaded my favorite TV show intro, Pretty Little Liars, using PWNYoutube. Then I opened iMovie and and imported the clip. From there, I dragged it to the area that says “drag media here”. :) Then I clicked clip adjustments and reversed it.

The result is this:

Super creepy, really, because its a dead girl.

My assignment can be found if you follow this link.

Daily Create Ideas

My first daily create idea was to take a picture of something you do when you first wake up. Apparenly, this was a successful TDC idea because 40 some odd people did it. A lot of them are pictures of toilets.

My other idea that I submitted was to take a picture of your favorite place to do homework or work at. This could be your desk, library, comfy chair, etc.

Final Project: Obama Chipmunk’d

For the Mainstream Chipmunk’d assignment, I decided to “chipmunk” a video from Obama’s youtube channel. This was is “Finish What We Started” video.

I downloaded the video with PwnYoutube and stuck it into iMovie and speed it up by 175%. 200% sounded way too quick.

How does this work into my story?

It’s simple. To remain a super hero, Obama must continue to be president. To do this, he must make sure the people vote for him.

Commence cape wearing around the oval office.

[7/20ish]

Also, my roommate said he sounded like a chipmunk king and all the cheers are his minions. This also fits.

 Recycle the media post [8/7]

For the Recycle the Media assignment, I took the pictures from the Minus site. I added sounds that told the story without needed words, but I added words at the bottom to make sure it come across as how it should. I feel like all of these pictures have been recycled throughly by other people viewing them and reusing them.

  • Summary of your work and final reflections on remix/mashup.

I have learned that there are more remixes out there than music remixes. For instance, a remixer making a Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Twlight remix. This is taking two different medias and making one new type that actually makes sense. I’d really like to learn more about remixes in art like paintings and sculptures. Would these be allowed because of such copyrights? How would these be done? Could you pixilate Starry Night and turn it into a remix?

Everytime I work on DS106 I feel like I learn more about things already on my computer, like iMovie or how to export to Flickr by just right clicking and hitting share.
